Resolutions wk 21

Apparently this week’s sketch resembles quite a bit. No, not even just quite a bit, but very much so. Or at least that’s what my friends tell me, in the sense of “Whoa! That’s you alright! Holy crap, it really looks like you.” Yeah, I did not finish it, because well, that is a bit … Continue reading

Resolutions wk 16: the final result

I  have to be honest, I do feel ever rather apprehensive in showing the final works. Because it is Me, despite I can see it’s not really me at the same time. Even though friends say they can and do recognise me in it, so it does resemble me, and yet at the same time … Continue reading

Resolutions wk 16, the beginning

After (trying to even prolong) my procrastination for the first try out for a self portrait, I finally made myself put down the first lines on paper. And well, I have to be honest, I was pleasantly surprised at how not bad the very beginning was. This particular ‘assignment’ also took longer than my usual … Continue reading

Start

As of Wednesday May 7, well technically Thursday as I didn’t start sketching until well after midnight, I’ve actually begun work on a self-portrait. Though this too is only a test run, and done in pastels on a relatively small (regular A4) size paper, I’m quite stunned and amazed by how not utterly dreadful the … Continue reading

Resolutions wk 14

Again, another rather disembodied hand floating about. This time it was more about a study of my skin tone. And unlike watercolour, I do have a bit more control on the outcome as this was done with pastel pencils. Surprisingly I was finished in almost record time. It’s a rather poor rendition of my hand, … Continue reading

Resolutions wk 12

After last week’s playing around with watercolour and making a mess for sun, this week was back to studying faces. I now wish to note that teeth absolutely suck, and I totally understand why most look rather stern on official portraits. Those non-smiling faces are ‘easier’ to get on paper/canvas, definitely not saying they are … Continue reading

In your face!

Ok, maybe not exactly in your face, but I dug around to find one of my older portraits I did during my course a couple of years ago. Yeah, pretty is not the word I’d use to describe it. Nor cute or delicate. Also, if I remember correctly you’d only have about 2 to 2,5 … Continue reading

Resolutions wk 11

Honestly, this particular resolution is probably the one and only ever to have managed to still be around 11 weeks later! Though to be fair, the usual resolutions were always a bit vague and just the ordinary generalised ones in the likes of “I want to lose some weight” or “I ought to get myself … Continue reading

Resolutions wk 10

Double figures! We’ve entered the double figures. Still with some great trepidation do I set out with the portraits. It’s a funny place to be in, on the one hand I enjoy the intrinsic challenge of it, but on the other I find myself dreading the topic itself. Some should be able to recognise the … Continue reading

Resolutions wk 9

Week 9 sees the start of my truly daunting challenge I’ve apparently set for myself. Somewhere somehow this little voice in me is challenging myself to do portraits. Not only portraits, but do a self-portrait. Despite questioning my sanity for even wanting to do it, I have accepted it. I’ve thrown down the gauntlet it … Continue reading

Resolutions wk 8

Week 8 already! Well, of course by the time this post is published, I’ll be somewhere in week 9. Perhaps even managed to finish that week’s resolution. I didn’t think I’d be able to keep it up, as there were plenty of time where I simply had to struggle to even put anything on paper. … Continue reading

Resolutions wk 7 – an attempt

Resolutions wk 7 – an attempt

One of the many half-hearted attempts I made for week 7. This actually got finished, as the others are not even close to anything. And yes, to me this is half-hearted. I guess for me it should require some more effort to make. A little bit more of a challenge to truly hold my interest … Continue reading

Resolutions wk 7

This week was sheer torture. No matter how much I tried, nothing seemed to hold my interest. Quite a few half-hearted attempts, but nothing caught on. Previous weeks definitely weren’t as tough as this. My energy wasn’t there, I don’t know, but whatever that gives me that flow was simply not present this week. I’ve … Continue reading

Resolutions wk 6

My late 2014 resolution is most definitely being used to play around with my various materials I have managed to gather over the years. And I have to say, I’m starting to enjoy this particular aspect. The inspiration is still a bit problematic, but I usually will have an idea with what I’d want to … Continue reading

Resolutions wk 5

Resolutions wk 5

Once again I was left uninspired. My initial plan was either to do something with charcoal or ordinary pencil, but I simply could not find anything that gave me a jolt. I ended up doodling with an ordinary ballpoint pen, and before I knew it, I had drawn a little mouse with attitude.
